Abstract
Abstract
Background: Breast and gynecological cancers (GCs) significantly affect women’s lives. Their impact is especially pronounced in younger women, influencing their physical, emotional, reproductive, and social well-being.
Objective: To evaluate how diagnosis and treatment of breast and gynecologic cancers affect various domains of quality of life (QoL) in young Egyptian females.
Methods: A cross-sectional study with prospective data collection of 150 premenopausal female patients with breast or gynecological cancers was conducted using a tailored questionnaire constructed by integrating selected items from validated QoL assessment tools including (EORTC QLQ-C30, EORTC QLQ-BR42, EORTC QLQ-BR-SURV40, WHOQOL-100). Data included demographic, treatment type, and domain-specific QoL impacts.
Results: Major domains affected included physical capability (fatigue, pain, neuropathy), sexual health (dyspareunia, reduced libido), role function, emotional distress (anxiety, depression), and financial strain. Treatment modalities such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgery & hormonal treatment were most associated with QoL deterioration.
Conclusion: QoL is deeply compromised by cancer and its treatments. Comprehensive survivorship care must address not just disease control but also the holistic well-being of young women.
