Aesthetic and Functional Results of Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty at The Ophthalmology Hospital of Minia University

Abstract

Abstract

Objective: To assess both the aesthetic and functional outcomes of upper eyelid blepharoplasty surgeries performed in the oculoplastic unit of the Ophthalmology Hospital of Minia University.

Patients and methods: In a prospective interventional case series study, performed between June 2022 to May 2023, forty eyes of 20 patients with redundant upper eyelid skin (dermatochalasis) underwent upper eyelid blepharoplasty. Comprehensive ophthalmic evaluation and visual field examination were done for all patients. Postoperative assessment was done with evaluation of the aesthetic and fuctional results.

Results: The mean age of the patients was 58.12±10.4 years and 70% of patients were females. Ninety percent of patients achieved excellent symmetry between lids and invisible postoperative scar with overall patients satisfaction was rated as good or excellent in 95% of patients.Visual field improvement occurred in %92 of patients.

Conclusion:

Upper lid blepharoplasty is a safe and effective surgical procedure that adresses the problem of upper eyelid dermatocalsis with exellent aesthetic and functional outcomes.
