Abstract

ABSTRACT

Purpose

To assess the relation between RDW levels in systemic lupus erythematosus patients in active and stable stages.

Methods

An 90 individuals were involved in the study. They were divided into 3 groups:

group I it was included 30 case group; who were patients with active SLE stage.

group II it was included 30case group; who were patients with stable SLE stage.

group III it was included 30 apparently healthy people as considered as control group.

RDW was tested by using auto-analyzer, it was using the commercially available clinical kits.

Results

There was highly statistically significant increase in RDW in active SLE patients than stable and control groups so it can be used a useful marker for active period of SLE.

Conclusion

In summary we found an association of RDW and SLE.

we recommend to use RDW test in screening inpatients who are at risk of developing active SLE.
